CARNIVAL

The carnival in the Dominican Republic, is FEAST of feasts!

Here the festival of Carnival began with the arrival of the Spanish and then of Catholicism.
And 'the period in which the Church allowed the release of the carnal desires of men, before a period instead of abstinence.
On this island, mixing with the culture of Africa, brought by slaves, has made the Church more permissive, so that at the end of the religious processions, was allowed to slaves blacks, to worship Jesus with their drums and their dances

In a second time, it had become a party
of the elite colonial.
Throughout the year, students
Autonomous University of Santo Domingo,
 organized collections to prepare dances
 and parties in February.
In the days of Carnival, was to use empty shells
eggs, and then fill them with scented water and
cap them with wax (EYES OF WAX) with which
small battles took place between people.
With the arrival the car in island , had
beginning the custom of adorning trucks and cars to
parading in the streets. Sponsored by small groups,
from social centers and by some companies who
also took the opportunity to promote their work or their products.
The "eyes of wax", were replaced by cast streamers, confetti and flowers!

During the carnival of 1910,
was also organized the first parade river,
on the Ozama River, with boats and ferries
decorated and a prize for the best.
Thus, the Carnival has had a bifurcation:
an elite, with parties in the most exclusive
where the people were, and a popular spectator
where the streets and squares were the stages.

A Samana is celebrated every Sunday in February, but the parade itself is 27, Independence Day.
Will parade different masks and typical characters of different cultural origins: el Areito (indium), el diablo Cojuelo (Spanish), y los entierros danzas (African) ...

There are also groups that address current issues, such as the fight against drugs, the inflation, the clandestine journeys to Puerto Rico with boats and more.

Each region of the Dominican Republic has its own special way of celebrating the carnival, but always with the constant rhythm of merengue and the joy that distinguishes the Dominican people.

Carnival of Las Terrenas "Ola del mar"

The Carnival of Las Terrenas will be the last of 2015 and will be held Saturday, March 7.
The parade will begin at Punta Popy and will end in Casablanca.
