The term mural painting shows a large, often with references to political, ideological or social, performed outdoors, usually on the walls of the streets.
Initially were performed on train carriages,
subways and walls abandoned, but slowly occupied every available space, without distinguishing walls valuable or not and stirring works of art, usually with social messages, with works purely vandalism.
In the United States, since 1984, the Philadelphia mural arts program, brings together several artists to decorate the walls of the city, creating constructive opportunities for group work, education and socialization.
The Festival "Hoy Santa Barbara", an initiative of the Center for the Image, with the support of public institutions from 23 to 29 March, will be developed in the neighborhood of Santa Barbara, near to the historic center of Santo Domingo.
Also on this occasion, the project aims to restore life to a poor district, following the examples of other cities in the world such as Berlin, Barcelona, Valparaiso, Wynwood, etc ...
