In this painting, the artist was a typical figure of a woman in Haiti. Even now, even here in Las Galeras, the Haitian use to carry large containers on their heads, to carry their merchandise on sale with astounding ease and elegance.

This can be baskets, bowls aluminum, backpacks, large trays or buckets and generally contain fruit, sweets, clothes, beauty products, or water.

The same picture exists in another variant, where the predominant color is blue, and the contents of the basket is different. (n. 162)

What is striking in this context are the elongated shapes of bodies and, as always, the colors.

The Dominican Republic is an island that depends on tourism and agriculture. In the peninsula of Samana, tourism is still developing and agriculture is the main source of livelihood.

Each family together then in the markets of the various countries where more local products, ranging from corn to pineapple, from coffee to tomatoes, avocado and mango to papaya to Yucca.
They are generally women to take care of the sale, showing their wares in large baskets or jute bags.
